Thank you for Saying NO to H.R. 6389 which would have Subsidized Irresponsible Development Next to Beachwalker Park at Kiawah!

Thank you so much for asking Congressman Henry Brown to withdraw the legislation that would encourage -- with our tax dollars -- development at the end of Kiawah Island.  He announced that he heard you loud and clear and is withdrawing the legislation.

Your calls and letters made all the difference!  Thank you.

Below is an excerpt from Congressman Brown’s E-Newsletter:

Kiawah Legislation – In June, I proposed legislation that would afford the Town of Kiawah Island a hearing to discuss the suitability of offering the standard $250,000 maximum federal flood insurance benefit to all property owners on Kiawah Island.  I am always receptive to feedback from my constituents and many of you were quite clear in stating your opposition to such a plan.  Your input, and the Kiawah Town Council's position that seems to have shifted since their May 13th letter supporting the proposed legislation, has prompted me to request a cancellation of the hearing on H.R. 6389, and thereby ending all further consideration of the legislation.  Your involvement in this process is what makes our government work, and I do appreciate you taking the time to offer your input on federal issues, large and small, that impact our lives.

Video Explores Sea Level Rise in Charleston

"Rising Seas: Challenges and Opportunities for the Lowcountry," is presented by the Southeast Coastal Climate Network, in partnership with the Coastal Conservation League, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, South Carolina Wildlife Federation and the Carolina Climate Network.

The short film was produced by Open Dome Productions, incorporating never-before-seen imagery developed by Architecture 2030. This documentary shows the vulnerability of Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and neighboring barrier island communities to sea level rise as a result of climate change.
